Brought in with her sister Lady Gray, Demi has blossomed into a sweet girl. Demi is a special kitten. She has been diagnosed with CH (cerebellar hyperplasia) and cataracts.
Feline cerebellar hypoplasia is a non-progressive, non-contagious neurological condition that results in walking and balance problems. Demi was born with CH with an underdeveloped cerebellum. It is caused usually when the mother contracted feline panleukemia when pregnant or there was trauma to the kittens in the womb. Demi's coordination and motor skills are underdeveloped. She walks like a "drunken sailor" at times and wobbles. She is considered "mild" and her condition does not slow her down. She is careful when she plays, not because of the CH but because she does not see very well. She and her sister Lady Gray play like normal cats. Demi's foster mom has modified her environment to enhance her play. She will climb but does best with progressive ledges to help her get down. Jumping from heights is dangerous for her. She will make a great companion in a home which understands her medical situation. Families with children younger than 6 or with highly active dogs should not apply, please.
Visit with this special girl at Harbison PetSmart on Saturdays from 12-4, or email us for more information at animalrescuecarolina@yahoo.com
